Jim S. Adler & Associates is proud to support Guadalupe Home with this video in hopes that it will increase donations to one of San Antonio’s most vital shelters for needy mothers and babies. The video tells the story of Guadalupe Home through interviews with some of its vulnerable young mothers and a woman who was determined to build a shelter for them and their babies -- Carmen Drury.
The home was founded in 1997 by four women in San Antonio who realized there was a tremendous need for a transitional shelter with a home environment that could provide supportive services to some of the most vulnerable citizens in San Antonio — homeless, pregnant women and homeless mothers with infants. During its first few years, Guadalupe Home was run by volunteers. In 2001, Guadalupe Home merged with Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio, Inc.
Women at Guadalupe Home could be housed at the city’s other homeless shelters, but those shelters cannot provide the kind of care that pregnant women and young babies need to truly thrive.
Many of its residents survived child abuse themselves. Many are the victims of domestic violence. Many have mental health issues. Some have abused substances. Others lack spiritual direction.
Guadalupe Home is a nurturing shelter that successfully teaches parenting skills, educational and vocational training and counseling to these young moms so they can become self-sufficient and take care of their babies on their own.
